Radio Service Inc - Tips from the Bench

  • Buy a quality battery. Don't be fooled by an off-brand's lower price. There is no substitute for quality. We use and recommend only genuine OEM replacement batteries.

  • Exercise that battery too!  Instead of leaving your radio continuously charging, such as using the battery charger as a desk-top radio holder, buy a spare battery and swap them out as needed. Short-cycle charges will reduce battery capacity and life.

  • Replace that weak automobile battery. Three years is long life for today's automobile batteries. Two-way radios, especially the high-powered versions, demand a good power source and clean connectors. Save you and your radio a lot of frustration and replace that weak battery.

  • Water Damage - Immediately remove the battery to prevent additional corrosion and attempt to remove what liquid possible. Quickly send the unit in for service. If not severe, a simple cleaning is all that may be required. Left untreated, water damage can render a modern multi-layered circuit board inoperative and unrepairable.

  • Charge a new battery overnight prior to first use. For maximum life from any rechargeable battery, complete an overnight charging cycle prior to initial use.
